PA-63 Grendizer Research Base

5.0/5 rating (1 votes)

Description

This is an overseas release of the Grendizer Base. On the outside, the only difference from the domestic Japanese release is the round "Overseas TOEI" sticker on the front.

Whatever market this was for, Popy cheaped out on the accessories. It's packed similarly with the same protective cardboard, but it only included 4 of the mini-ships (non-chromed ones) and 4 missiles (non-finned versions). Also, no paperwork.

The base itself has no noticeable variations from the domestic - which is fine, 'cause it is awesome as is with spring loaded gimmiks for raising the rear tower, launching the mini grendizer ships and missiles.

The moulded clear yellow sides also show some great detail of the interior of the base

I had assumed the "Overseas" meant Australia, since that is where the seller was located. However, when I subsequently contacted him about the history of the toy, his limited info told me he had purchased it in 2000 from a "very prominent" Japanese collector, so the market for this is still a mystery to me.

Great toy, regardless what market we're talking about ;-)
