Robot-Japan collection being sold at Morphy Auctions

on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.

Well with much consideration, consternation, resuscitation (after the near heart failure of friends), and eventual happiness, the RJ collection is now officially being sold. The robots that were purchased, cataloged, photographed, and then stored away all my life are now going to new homes. Good news for collectors, then this is good news for living a balanced life.

Visit www.morphyauctions.com for details and check out the Daikumaryu (skull dragon) thumb nail. It will open up to the, guffaw, “Ed Sandford Collection” sales link. Then there is a link for online bidding. Collectors can also visit the September 13th, 2012 event in person; I would prefer to see everyone and catch up in the flesh. The visits will actually be the most valuable part of the sale for me.......

Action Masters Starscream Turbo Jet toyhack

on Tuesday, July 17, 2012.

5mm starscreamjet thumbnailThe Transformer's Action Masters toy-line arrived at the tail end of the original Transformers run from the 80s. I suspect they were more well known in Europe than in the States as the series ran a year longer in that market. It's fairly easy to come across an incomplete Starscream Turbo Jet. I liked the design. It reminded me of the Micronauts Photon Sled. I wanted the modifications to be simple.

Gigasaurus — Ampzilla toyhack

on Wednesday, July 04, 2012.

5mm ampzilla thumbnailAmpzilla is a late arrival to the Micronauts toyline. To some it's the Micronauts Grail to others Meh. These extremes inspired me to take matters into my own hands and make my very own Ampzilla, one closer to my tastes. A casual approach would most likely consist of getting a realistic looking plastic dinosaur and drilling 5mm holes into it's skull to insert 'freaking lasers on it's head' perhaps inserting some gack randomly over it's body. I opted for another approach.
